Youth Advantage Project

YAP LOGO About the Youth Advantage Project

The purpose of the Youth Advantage Project is to assist deserving youth from the ages of 8 to 17 to pursue their individual dreams and interests. The project is meant to reach the kids who have fallen through the cracks; those who have not had the resources or chances to pursue their talents, hobbies, and dreams.

We offer scholarships to fund youth with tutors and courses in art, dance, music, acting or digital art, to assist them in reaching their own goals. We hope to branch out into smaller communities and reach youth who don’t have access to the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and others.

Smart Choice Life fully funds our scholarships. The more you spread the word, the more youth that will be able to achieve their dreams.

How It Got Started

On July 23rd, 2010 Greg E Hughes (son of founder, Gordon Hughes) passed away. The sudden passing of Greg helped Gordon focus on children who fall through the cracks of society. Some, through no fault of their own are not given a chance to explore their interests and opportunities. This inspired Gordon (who was searching for a worthy cause to support) to start the project in memory of his son.

The last place Greg worked was Advantage Communications, in Charlottetown, P.E.I. He loved his work, his co-workers, and the company he worked for. He supported the idea of giving deserving youth an advantage they wouldn’t have otherwise. Thus the Project was named the Youth Advantage Project for culture.

The initial funding to start this project was donated by Christine Hughes (sister) Karen Hughes (sister) and Gordon Hughes (father, and founder). The Youth Advantage Project for Culture Inc. owns 50% of Smart Choice Life so 50% of Smart Choice Life’s profits supports The Youth Advantage Project.
